REAL SOCIEDAD: UNBEATEN RUN ENDS

Real Sociedad suffered a big dent to their Champions League aspirations after they were beaten 1-0 at Granada over the weekend. German Sanchez was the hero for the hosts as he scored the only goal of the game to hand Granada victory and also end the unbeaten run of opponents Real Sociedad. Basque club Real Sociedad had gone seven games without defeat in the Spanish La Ligasince the 3-2 away defeat at the hands of fellow Champions League chasers Sevilla. Sevilla and Real Sociedad occupy fourth and fifth positions on the La Liga standings and only the top four teams will represent Spain in the UEFA Champions League (UCL) next season. Atletico Madrid, Barcelona and Real Madrid are the top three teams in the division.

The defeat to Granada also ensured that Real Sociedad lost their four-match unbeaten run in all competitions since the heavy defeat to Manchester United in the Europa League at the round of 32 stage. The Red Devils won the first leg 4-0 away from home before a goalless draw ensured that they progress into the round of 16 at the expense of Real Sociedad. Real Sociedad missed the influence of influential playmaker David Silva during the Granada as he had to go off with an injury in the first half of the game. David Silva has been the catalyst behind the club's push to qualify for the Champions League following his move to the club last summer. David Silva signed for Real Sociedad on a free transfer at the start of this campaign. He was a Manchester City player for a decade until his contract at the club ended last summer. With the injury picked up against Granada at the weekend, David Silva is a big doubt for the next game, a home clash with Barcelona.
