BERNARDO DRAWS DAVID SILVA COMPARISON

In-form Manchester City midfielder Bernardo Silva has drawn comparison with club legend David Silva who left the Citizens last summer to return to his native Spain. David Silva signed for Spanish La Liga club Real Sociedadon a free transfer shortly after he ended his ten-year stay at the Etihad Stadium.

Ex-Manchester City and Aston Villa goalkeeper Shay Given waxed lyrical about Portugal international Bernardo Silva in the latest edition of Matchday Live after the petite player produced a sensational performance to lead Manchester City to a 2-1 win at the home of Aston Villa. According to Given, Bernardo Silva is almost a clone of David Silva. Given knows a lot about David Silva whom he played with during his time at the Etihad Stadium.

Portuguese midfielder Bernardo has been one of the best players in the Premier League this season and Given believes that he should be in the conversation for the Ballon d'Or Award as he referred to him as a brilliant player.

Manchester City passed the Villa test thanks in part to Bernardo who scored what turned out to be the winning goal two minutes from the interval. He finished a lighting City counter attack with a superb left-footed volley for one of the best goals in this season’s Premier League. He doubled the advantage given to the Citizens by the 27th minute strike from compatriot Ruben Dias off the assist from England international Raheem Sterling.

Bernardo was able to take his tally to three goals in his last four league outings with the second City goal at Villa.

Villa pulled one back just after the half-time break through leading goalscorer Ollie Watkins, but they could not get the second goal to draw the game due to the world-class save made by goalkeeper EdersonMoraes to deny 18-year-old Villa substitute Carny Chukwuemeka in the 74th minute. In the end, City held on for a 2-1 win to seal a sixth win in a row in all competitions.
