Stan Collymore urges Liverpool to sign player with vision of David Silva

Former Liverpool star Stan Collymore has said that the Reds should look into a potential move for Ruben Neves from Wolverhampton Wanderers this summer. The 22-year-old has recently enjoyed an impressive debut season in the Premier League and Collymore believes the Portuguese is capable of adding more quality into the Reds’ ranks.

Speaking to The Mirror, he said: “He’ll know he needs a couple of marquee signings — Ruben Neves would be fantastic for Liverpool — and for his squad not to drop points in such games as the games against Manchester United and Everton. Ruben Neves is one, he’s been on the radar of several clubs. A playmaker. He has the kind of vision of a David Silva or a Bernardo Silva.”
Neves has been extremely impressive for Wolves since making the move from Porto two years ago. However, he has mostly plyed his trade in the central midfield role rather than moving into advanced attacking positions and that evades the potential comparison with David Silva or Bernardo Silva, who are both in the ranks of Manchester City.

As such, Jurgen Klopp’s team could be better served pursuing a player, who is versed playing in the number 10 position and reports have recently indicated that they could revive their interest in signing Lyon’s Nabil Fekir. The France international was on the verge of joining them from Les Gones last summer but the move fell through at the final hurdle amid concerns over a second medical where they knew about the midfielder’s knee concerns over the years.

At present, Fekir has just 13 months remaining on his current contract at the Groupama Stadium and reports suggest that he could be available on the cheap when compared to the £53m fee, Liverpool were prepared to pay at some point of time last summer.
