SILVA RULED OUT FOR ONE MONTH
Real Sociedad playmaker David Silva won't play again this season after the Spaniard was ruled out for one month as a result of the injury picked up against Athletic Bilbao in the 2020 Spanish Copa Del Rey final penultimate weekend. David Silva was part of the team that beat Bilbao 1-0 in that final to end the long wait for a major trophy.
Real Sociedadhad not won any major trophy for over three decades since they triumphed in the same competition at the end of the 1986/87 season.
David Silva had to go off in the closing stages of that final game because of adductor injury. He has since been ruled out of action for one month as a result of the injury. The injury forced him to miss the 2-2 draw with Valencia in what was a Spanish La Liga game.
Apart from David Silva, fellow Spanish midfielder AsierIllaramendi has also been ruled out for a month due to injury. His injury forced him to miss the Copa Del Rey final win over Bilbao.
Silva and Illaramendi could miss up to six matches in what's a big blow to manager Imanol Alguacil in his quest to finish the season strongly.
Real Sociedad have already qualified for the Europa League next season after winning the Copa Del Rey final mentioned above and are likely not to challenge for Champions League qualification between now and the end of the season due to the gap between them and Sevilla in the fourth and final spot on the La Liga standings.
David Silva has missed a lot of games for Real Sociedad due to injury problems here and there in what's his first season at the club. The playmaker is back in his native Spain after playing in the Premier League for over a decade in the colours of Manchester City.
Spanish player David Silva is seen as a legend at Manchester City after he helped the club to win several major trophies. He was an important part of the team that won the 2011/12 Premier League campaign in dramatic fashion under then manager Roberto Mancini. He went on to win three more league titles with two coming under current boss Pep Guardiola.
Manchester City have been able to emerge as title contenders again without him in the team. The Citizens are closing in on another league title this season under Guardiola.
