David Silva unveils new hairstyle ahead of the new season

Manchester City midfielder David Silva has reportedly got rid of his mullet ahead of the new campaign.

The Spain international has unveiled his new haircut for pre-season - one which resembles that of manager Pep Guardiola. Silva has been the main stay in the Citylineup over the past seven seasons, but he has opted to shave off his thick brown locks which maintain his identity on the playing field.

The buzz cut has become sort of a trend for those tending to keep their hair short, and the 31-year-old unveiled his bold new look via an Instagram photo which included the caption: "Fresh look for the new season."

Silva played a significant role in the Citizens' third place in the Premier League last season, but the result was still below expectation with many expecting Pep Guardiola to push the club towards league success. The Catalan tactician had not gone trophyless over the course of his managerial career, but his maiden season in English football ended this feat.

The Spaniard was one of the players who showed up consistently for Manchester City over the course of the previous campaign, and he ended up scoring seven goals in 35 appearances for the Mancunian giants. The former Valencia graduate is no doubt one of the first names on the teamsheet, but he is leaving little to chance after having copied the hairstyle to get in the manager's good-books.

Manchester City are currently overseeing a major change in the full-back positions with Pablo Zabaleta, Gael Clichy, Bacary Sagna having left on free transfers while Aleksandar Kolarov has personally requested to join AS Roma during this summer's transfer window. As a result, City will have a new-look backline for the new campaign with Kyle Walker having already joined from Tottenham Hotspur earlier in the month. Guardiola is keen on adding at least two to three defenders before the transfer deadline with the left-back position in need of sufficient strengthening.
