MORE PATIENCE NEEDED

The Manchester City midfielder David Silva has said that the team needs to be more patient in order to be successful in European competitions in the future.

The club are on the brink of elimination from the Champions League at the group stages for the second consecutive season. Manchester City could argue the fact that they have been put in extremely difficult group for the last two seasons, but it is unlikely to improve next season as well due to the seeding procedures. Since the club has failed to get past the group stages once again, they will be in the pot that will play against top teams.

City will be having a difficult match against Real Madrid at home. The Real Madrid manager José Mourinho has already dismissed the hopes of the Premier league club getting past the group stages because even with two victories in the last two matches it will not be enough for the team to qualify. Silva has acknowledged the fact that he feels that City are rookies when it comes to the European competitions. They also have a squad that is relatively new to the prospect of playing together in European football. He is confident that results will improve as they gain experience of playing in Europe.

“Three years ago we struggled to get into that competition. Now we are required to win it — but we must have patience. We know that so far, we should have done better in Europe but we can only look forward. I am very happy in Manchester. I’m one of the leaders and part of a team. When I play here, I feel very important. Everything works well here and I am happy, so I renewed,” said David Silva. City are currently in the second position in the Premier league.
