CITY WILL MISS DUO

Manchester city assistant manager David Platt has said that he does not expect both David Silva and Mario Balotelli to be part of the squad in the opening few weeks of the season. The two players were heavily involved with the respective national teams and the Euro 2012.

David Silva managed to win the Euro 2012 with the Spanish national team, while Mario Balotelli was the player to lose the final with the Italian national team. As a result, they had absolutely no rest over the summer, which is the cause for the decision to extend the break for these two players according to David Platt.

David Silva was one of the best players for Manchester city in the first half of last season. He has recently been offered a new five-year deal with the club, which will put him as one of the highest earning footballers in the world. Manchester city will be facing Chelsea in the Community Shield on Sunday, which will be the curtain draw for the new Premier league season. Manchester city manager Roberto Mancini has been extremely happy with the way the club has been unable to bring in any high profile players over the transfer window.

"They'll be ready to play some part of it, but whether we feel they will be ready to start games is another matter. If we get three injuries to centre-forwards then Mario will have to play, so that's that," said the assistant manager of the club, David Platt. Meanwhile, the Manchester city manager Roberto Mancini recently confirmed that he does not expect Robin van Persie to sign for the club. It is understood that Manchester United are now in pole position to secure his signature of the highly rated 29-year-old Dutchman, who is available for around £ 25 million.
